Weekends as needed, evenings as needed About the Job Parents Helping Parents of San Luis Obispo is searching for a bilingual individual interested in working with parents of children and adults with special needs to fulfill FEC goals, specifically:
Provide parents and families with accurate information in a linguistically and culturally affirming manner so they can be active participants in their child's education to ensure they are provided appropriate education and support services in accordance with their needs.
Offer parents specialized training and peer-to-peer support in their communities.
Provide families with direct support, information, and assistance to navigate complex systems.
Improve, expand, and offer technical assistance to the network of existing resources for parents and families.
Outreach to underserved populations and communities in San Luis Obispo county.
About PHP/UCP Parents Helping Parents of San Luis Obispo is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that provides resources to families of children with special needs and learning delays throughout SLO County.
The mission of PHP is to empower children with special needs to reach their fullest potential.
This is realized by strengthening families through parent and professional education, mutual support, referral networks and greater community awareness.
PHP is an affiliate of United Cerebral Palsy of SLO County, an organization committed to creating opportunities that facilitate independence, personal growth, and provide full participation in the community for people with disabilities.
Job Responsibilities This is a full-time, benefitted position.
This position is on-site within San Luis Obispo County, except for required in-person meetings and conferences.
Family Empowerment Center
Responsibilities:
Assume responsibility for overall coordination and development of Family Empowerment Center (FEC) services.
Implement and maintain FEC goals.
Provide coordination for outreach and engagement to underserved populations.
Assume shared responsibility for Family Empowerment Center under the California Department of Education with Director of Programs & Services.
Performing Case Management responsibilities.
Provide advocacy training to families and self-advocates.
Provide oversight to intake activities and evaluate case for referral to other agencies; Understand current laws and regulations impacting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
Ensure efficiency and accuracy of data collection and reporting of program wide activities including:
Ensuring timely completion of required data collection.
Meet reporting requirements of granting agencies.
Maintain files and other relevant data in an organized manner using mandated reporting software.
Provide data analysis as requested by Executive Director and funders.
Keep abreast of changes to data collection requirements, software, etc.
Attend FEC state-wide meetings.
Perform other related duties as assigned/needed.
Community Navigator Program (CNP) and All Family Support Program
Responsibilities:
Participate in facilitation and monitoring the delivery of effective parent support, education, and information.
Offer resource development, referral resources, and communication techniques.
Attend bi-weekly Navigator meetings.
Provide CNP case management as specified.
Provide family support and lead support groups.
Provide families with resources and current information.
Timely provision and follow-up of parent to parent, phone calls and correspondence.
Knowledge of child development.
Attend training on State Standards of Family Strengthening and Support to ensure team utilization.
Work with the management team to develop appropriate outreach and education through social media, English and Spanish.
Attend training as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned/needed.
Required Qualifications B.
A.
degree in Education, Special Education, Early Child Development, Social Work, Psychology, Human Development, Family Services, Counseling or related field.
Bilingual in Spanish and English.
4 years previous experience in related fields.

Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 25 lbs.
Ability to travel throughout San Luis Obispo County; reliable personal vehicle with evidence of insurance.
Ability to commit to 32 hours per week (may include evenings and weekends).
Eligible to work in the United States.

Demonstrated initiative in project development and management.
Knowledge of non-profit/social services.
Demonstrated ability and experience in systems and individual advocacy.
Demonstrated understanding of the Delivery of Service System both local and statewide.
Skills in various software applications including word processing, spreadsheets, database management and communications and use of the internet.
Compensation/Benefits $27-30/hour at 32 hours per week.
