Downtown SLO serves the community by working on initiatives like parking and beautification efforts, coordinating special events and the weekly Farmers' Market, supporting economic activities and examining Downtown issues.
Our office is located in the heart of downtown on Chorro Street, and our work environment is fast-paced, dynamic, and fun.
ABOUT THE CLEAN & SAFE PROGRAM Downtown SLO Ambassadors ensure that downtown is clean, safe, and welcoming to visitors.
Ambassadors provide cleaning services for the sidewalks and alleys within the boundaries of our 24-block service area.
This includes, but is not limited to, the removal of trash, graffiti, stickers, and messes.
Ambassadors walk the downtown area connecting our community -- whether that's providing directions, recommending restaurants, answering questions, or giving resources to unhoused folks.
Downtown Ambassadors often report potential dangers or active emergency situations to the police, fire department, or emergency services.
JOB DESCRIPTION The Downtown Ambassador Team Lead position requires an energetic individual with a personable and upbeat affect and attention to detail.
The Ambassador Team Lead is responsible for the daily supervision of the Ambassador team and all work being performed in the field.
The ideal candidate will thrive in a dynamic work environment where they will interact with all people in the downtown community, including but not limited to residents and guests, business owners, visitors, unhoused individuals, and law enforcement/first responders.
The Ambassador Team Leader should be decisive, have the ability to lead by example, and work alongside the team effectively.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES ? Manage and work alongside the downtown Ambassador Team to ensure compliance with organization policies and standards.
? Responsible for weekly scheduling.
? Responsible for daily shift briefings and assigning duties and zones, reviewing events, weather and safety updates to the Ambassador team.
? Assigning projects in a fair manner that holds the team responsible for being productive.
? Ensuring that all reporting (daily metrics, incident reporting) is thorough and up to date.
? Assist with in-house training, including new hire training and team training.
? Develop and maintain working relationships with local government service providers, property managers, merchants, and members of the Downtown SLO staff.
? Conduct weekly Downtown Ambassador teammeetings and ensure Downtown Ambassadors are effectively deployed and have the necessary equipment and supplies to perform duties.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES Cleaning ? Remove litter from sidewalks, tree wells, and planters ? Wipe down trash cans and benches ? Clean up sidewalk messes and spills ? Clean near bike racks and public benches ? Dispose of abandoned/lost items Maintenance ? Remove stickers from public property ? Remove graffiti and chalk marks ? Interface with City Public Works to report damaged or tarnished items such as signs, news racks, light poles and trash cans Safety ? Observe and monitor the district and report any dangerous or threatening situations ? Report violations of laws and local ordinances to proper authorities ? Advise offenders of the infraction and provide supporting information ? Respond to calls on the ambassador phone and analyze the situation for appropriate responses Outreach ? Provide wayfinding directions and recommendations ? Establish and maintain relationships with local business owners, shopkeepers, and bar/restaurant owners ? Interact with the public to provide requested information ? Assist law enforcement and social service providers by advising individuals in need of services of the resources available to them ? Serve as an informational resource and point of contact for many people and will provide information in a courteous and professional manner at all times PHYSICAL DEMANDS ? Walk and stand continuously during an eight-hour shift with normal breaks (two ten-minute breaks, one one-hour meal break) ? Lift and move materials up to 50 pounds ?
