Job Summary Administrative and clerical support is provided by one staff position and at times a student assistant.
This position is responsible for the full range of administrative support of the department and supervision of the department office, including serving as the primary and initial contact/representative for the department to university members (students, faculty, staff, and administrators), parents, vendors, government/agency representatives and administrators, and the general public; providing administrative support for its academic programs; scheduling appointments and meetings; support with travel and the Concur tool; composing routine correspondence; generating reports; and providing administrative support for special events such as talks and workshops.
This position reports to and receives general supervision from the Department Chair.
Department Summary The Ethnic Studies Department, in the College of Liberal Arts, offers a B.
A.
in Comparative Ethnic Studies, and two minors:
1) Ethnic Studies Minor, and 2) Indigenous Studies in Natural Resources and the Environment (INRE) minor.
The department offers a range of courses that fulfill general education (GE) and U.
S.
cultural pluralism requirements (USCP).
The major currently supports 50 students, and was established in spring 2006.
The minor programs are open to all majors and provide a useful complement to the different types of inquiry used in the wide variety of disciplines throughout the university.
There are currently 40 active minors participating in the program.
The department is comprised of a department chair, seven tenure-track faculty, and three to five part time lecturers.
The department, and its faculty, partner with various campus programs (e.
g.
, Cross cultural Centers, Office of University Diversity and Inclusivity, Center for Teaching Learning and Technology) to provide outreach, service, and education on issues of diversity and inclusion.
Key Qualifications Working knowledge of budget policies and procedures.
Ability to perform business math, such as calculate ratios and percentages, track and analyze financial and/or budgetary data, and make accurate projections requiring some inference.
Ability to organize and coordinate special events for large groups.
Ability to provide lead work direction to support staff and student assistants.
Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures independently and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist.
Ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to all inquiries and requests related to work area.
Education and Experience High school diploma or its equivalent.
Four years of general office support or technical experience.
Training at a vocational school or full-time college education may be substituted for up to three years of the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Salary and Benefits Anticipated Hiring Range:
$42,064 - $51,360 annually Classification Range:
