The On-Call Crisis Specialist is responsible for providing crisis services throughout San Luis Obispo County by way of mental health evaluations.
Major Duties &
Responsibilities:
Perform mental health assessments and 5150 evaluations.
Provide crisis intervention for individuals who are in distress.
Provide brief, stabilizing counseling.
Provide referral, linkage to community resources and follow-up.
Complete forms with clients who are to receive ongoing mental health services.
Assist mental health clients in obtaining social and other human services.
Communicate directly and effectively with other professionals involved.
Other related duties as assigned.
( Asterisk denotes duties that are considered essential job functions) Minimum Qualifications and Characteristics:
Educational status must include one of the following:
Master's degree in a behavioral sciences field Bachelor's degree in a behavioral sciences field Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) or Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years of experience in mental health crisis work or closely related fieldIf licensed or license eligible, license or associate number must be unrestricted per the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.
At least two (2) years of experience in crisis support services.
Demonstrated skills in crisis evaluation.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate communication between/among multiple entities.
Essential Physical & Mental Functions:
Function independently and have flexibility, personal integrity and the ability to work effectively with clients, staff and support agencies.
Able to relate to and work with mentally ill, disabled, emotionally upset and at times hostile people.
Available for on-call work shifts, possibly including nights and weekends.
Communicate clearly in person, over the telephone, and in groups.
Possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Travel among program sites and community locations.
Operate office equipment such as computers, copier equipment, facsimile and telephone.

WIC5150 designation training provided.
Up to 10 hours of professional training provided.
Other full benefits only available for full-time employees.
